In Portland today and the only talk I hear about is the Big O — Ducks headed to the national championship. In line for the Nordstrom Rack dressing room, and I hear a woman talking about a “Standing O.” Sitting, standing, laying or in the shower – bring it on, I say! Right now, I’m needing a glass of something brimming with intense masculinity. Willamette Valley Vineyards 2007 Pinot Noir Elton Vineyard – very Burgundian, very exceptional. This wine is firm and unrestrained – red and black fruit. Classically earthy laced with artichoke and anise; it’s more Hemingway then Fitzgerald, more raw then refined. Well balanced with chewy texture – and concludes with a strong, rippling blueberry finish that hurts in the best way.
Onward for the Ducks!
