Love Your Husband But Be a Little Mean

Grandma Rose imparted her wisdom: Love your husband, but always be a little mean. Even though she wasn’t my grandma, I took this sentiment to heart.

With a glass of 2000 Chateau St. Jean, Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon Cinq Cepages in one hand, I use the other to flick The German behind the ear. My pointer finger pressed tightly against my thumb, I sharply release it with forward trajectory, making contact. He’s startled, then puzzled, then pissed. Can’t blame him. This wine is like that – showing traces of playful spunk with bites, tweaks, and flicks. But the spunk is waning, and we got to her in the knick of time. In our glass this wine was a bit thin, but held firm to soft, balanced tannins and a purple inkiness. Suggestions of plum, currant and black cherry– hints of vanilla and cocoa powder quietly showed through. In her day, this wine was probably a good-natured nibbler and a serious spanker. Eternal nothingness is fine if you happen to be dressed for it said Woody Allen. And Grandma Rose would agree.

Price: $70 – $80
Thumbs Up: Not so much at this point. Could have been the bottle.
